The Cayes Botanical Garden thanks you for signing and sharing our petition calling on the Haitian State to safeguard it and take measures for its reopening.
The Cayes Botanical Garden — a heritage built with passion over more than twenty years — has been vandalized and forcibly closed: rare plant collections were cut down, burned and destroyed, and the ecological reserve completely eliminated and set on fire.
To save it, we launched Phase 1 of the mobilization: gather as many signatures as possible to call on the Haitian State to act — as required by article 256 of the Constitution — with a goal of 5,000 signatures before June 5, 2026.
This goal was not fully reached, but your mobilization gathered 3,602 signatures from 57 countries around the world. This result reflects a deep attachment to the Cayes Botanical Garden and its mission of conservation, education and research.
A huge thank you to the signatories from the United States, Haiti, Canada, France, the Dominican Republic and dozens of other countries who joined this collective momentum.
This week, our team is analyzing the results of the mobilization and undertaking the necessary follow-up steps with the relevant authorities, to continue our efforts to reopen the Cayes Botanical Garden to the public.
We firmly believe that this institution represents a scientific, educational and environmental heritage essential to Haiti. Since the dawn of humanity, great civilizations have been built on the knowledge and mastery of plants. The Cayes Botanical Garden plays that role today: preserving plant wealth, educating future generations, and promoting Haiti's natural heritage.
Whether you are a student, pupil, professional or simply a nature lover, your voice counts to save our heritage.
